Who do you trust more when deciding to switch banks? A fluffy advertising campaign or word of mouth from your friends? With the Refer-A-Friend campaign Capital One saw an opportunity to reward existing customers while also giving potential new customers a reason to try out banking at Capital One. Current customers can send a link to a friend to encourage them to try Capital One. Referers earn $20 for each new customer who successfully applies, and their referred friend ears $50 for joining.

Bolstered by the bonus incentive, this campaign saw a 12% increase in new customers for the 3rd and 4th quarter of 2014.
